Luís Mendonça (Louletano/Aviludo/ULI) won the 36th Volta ao Alentejo Crédito Agrícola, which ended today in Évora, in a stage won in the sprint by the repeater Gabriel Cullaigh (Team Wiggins).

The cyclist from the Algarvian team left today at an advantage to become the winner of the Alentejo, at the end of the sixth and final stage, which linked Castelo de Vide to Évora.

After taking the lead the day before, after the time trial in Castelo de Vide, the cyclist from Paredes had, at the beginning of this last run, eight seconds ahead of the Portuguese Ricardo Mestre (W52-FC Porto) and 13 over the Irish Mark Downey (Team Wiggins).

And that was the composition that remained at the end of the stage, which ended at Praça do Giraldo, in Évora. The overall classification is completed with the names of the Algarve Ricardo Mestre (W52/FC Porto), in second position, 8 seconds away, and the Irishman Mark Downey (Team Wiggins) in third, at 13 seconds.

Luís Mendonça thus becomes the first Portuguese to win the Alentejo since 2006, when Sérgio Ribeiro won the race.

Russian Alexander Evtushenko (Lokosphinx), the best climber since the 1st stage, collects the Brown Jersey Delta Cafés and teammate Dimitrii Strakhov is the leader of the points ranking, translated into the Black Kia Jersey. The Inatel Foundation White Jersey, symbol of youth, is given to Mark Downey (Team Wiggins).

W52/FC Porto is the best team of the 36th Volta ao Alentejo Crédito Agrícola.
