The book “S. Clemente tem História”, by Fernando Graça and Ricardo Inácio, will be presented next Thursday, March 8th, at 18 pm, at the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library, in Loulé. The presentation of this work is part of the “Open Books” initiative.

"S. Clemente is the second most populated parish in the municipality of Loulé. Its geographical area comprises around two thirds of the city of Loulé. To speak of the parish of S. Clemente is to speak, inevitably, of the urban area of Loulé, of its historical and cultural area», explains the Câmara de Loulé.

The monument erected to Engineer Duarte Pacheco, the Castle, the Igreja Matriz de S. Clemente, the Igreja da Misericórdia, attached to the former Hospital of Nossa Senhora dos Pobres, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Convent of Graça, as Bicas Velhas, the Municipal Market and the Town Hall are the main monuments and emblematic buildings of this parish «which necessarily constitute a poster of
any tourist itinerary in Loulé».

It is also in this parish that many of the Loulé events take place, such as the Loulé Carnival, MED Festival and Noite Branca. According to the Loulé municipality, «in addition to being the oldest parish in the municipality of Loulé and exuding more than 600 years of history, S. Clemente is, today, a modern, dynamic parish with enterprising and forward-looking people» .

In this work, Fernando Graça «has managed to present, in a simple and accessible way, historical events that transform a scientific work into a practical manual», considers the City Council.

The illustrations by Ricardo Inácio «allow the reader to give free rein to his imagination», concludes the municipality.

The presentation is free.
