Lídia Jorge, António Mega Ferreira, Dália Paulo and João Soares are the guests of the third session of the cycle of conversations “The Algarve, Portugal and the Future” which will debate cultural issues this Thursday, March 8th, at 21 pm, at the João de Deus Secondary School Amphitheater, in Faro.

The moderation will be by journalist Rosa Veloso, from RTP.

«The idea that culture plays an important role in the organization of communities is increasingly widespread and accepted and that, along with heritage, they are essential values for the very definition of our collective identity», says the publisher “Sul, Sol e Sal”, promoter of the initiative.

"However, the State Budget funds allocated to the Ministry and the disinvestment in the sector, especially in times of crisis, contradict the growing perspective that culture is an effective factor in the development of the country and the region," he adds.

What policies can promote education through art and stimulate cultural tastes «will be some of the issues we want to see discussed».

Other themes that “import to reflect on” are, for example, the role of the State as promoter and dynamizer of cultural activities, the definition of contractual relations, compensation for financial support, as well as the protection, conservation and enjoyment of heritage.

“O Algarve, Portugal and the Future” is an initiative of Sul, Sol e Sal and the Rotary Club of Faro which aims to reflect and rehearse new ideas for the Algarve and Portugal.

In the first cycle of conversations, João Guerreiro, former rector of the University of Algarve, defended the need for a “regional project” for the Algarve.

The second session had as guests António Rebelo de Sousa, João Cravinho, André Jordan and Vítor Neto, who spoke about economics.
