The Algarve registered an occupancy rate, per available room, of 32% in January, 3,5 percentage points more than in the same month of 2017, according to data from the Hotel Association of Portugal (AHP). 

When compared by zone, the occupancy rate was higher in Algarve Sotavento (55%), compared to Algarve Centro (25%) and Algarve Barlavento (33%).

As for ARR (average price per occupied room) it was 45 euros, 3% more than in January 2017, and RevPar (average price per available room) grew 16%.

According to AHP Tourism Monitors, the exclusive tool for collecting data on national hotels worked on monthly by AHP, January registered, in Portugal, a growth of 2,6 percentage points in the occupancy rate, which stood at 48%.

The ARR stood at 71 euros, showing an increase of 11% compared to the same period of the previous year. In this indicator, the four and five star categories grew the most: 11% and 10%, respectively.

RevPAR stood at 34 euros and continued on the ascending route, recording a growth of 17%, compared to the same month of the previous year. Of note, in tourist destinations, the growth of 37% in Beiras, followed by the West with 31% more and Alentejo with 28% more.

As for the highest occupancy rates, the highlights go to Madeira (69%), Lisbon (60%) and Greater Porto (47%).

 

Cristina Siza Vieira, executive president of the Hotel Association of Portugal, comments that «as expected, we opened the year 2018 to record growth in line with that of 2017. Of course, the “mark” of seasonality is significant, as the absolute results demonstrate'.

All figures indicated refer to relative variations between the same periods (January 2018 and January 2017), according to the definitions of tourist destinations contained in Hotel Monitor. Values ​​and variations of statistical information are rounded to the nearest tenth.

The results presented refer to values ​​contained in the Hotel Monitor on the 16th of March.
