The V Hiking Festival of Alcoutim and Sanlúcar de Guadiana, which was supposed to start this Friday and last until Sunday, the 11th, has been postponed to the 6th, 7th and 8th of April, «due to adverse weather conditions for the next few days» .

“Weather forecasts are adverse for the weekend, as we will have days of intense rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and at this moment 60% chance of occurrence of tornadoes,” explains the Alcoutim City Council, in a statement.

Therefore, «after evaluating all the weather conditions and also the safety risks of all hikers registered in the thirteen hikes that are part of the event's program, and considering that the event excels in favoring not only hikes but also experiences in nature , such as picnics, walks with the shepherd, seeing bees in the natural environment, bird watching, walks along the Guadiana on steep paths, crossing streams and ravines, etc., the organization will communicate the decision to change the date of the event to all participants'.

Alcoutim City Council is, from now on, articulating with the organization's partners the realization of the Festival on the new date.

"We regret any possible inconvenience, but, as it will be easy to see, the weather verified in recent days, in addition to driving away many participants, would make the walks and the experience unpleasant", adds the municipality.

The proposed walk for Sunday morning “Marcha Corrida Vaqueiros” is still scheduled, although subject to existing weather conditions. The concentration is scheduled for 9:30 am, in Vaqueiros. Entries are free and can be done on the same day and place.

The initiative is organized by the municipality of Alcoutim, in partnership with the Ayuntamiento Sanlúcar de Guadiana, and is part of the Algarve Walking Season.
