“I don't need anything to smile”, composed by the Algarvean Júlio Resende, even had the same 22 votes as the song “O Jardim” that won the Festival da Canção. However, in the event of a tie, the public vote is decisive and, therefore, the winner was the song by Cláudia Pascoal, composed by Isaura.

The song that will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Festival was chosen through the sum of the scores given by the regional juries, public and televoting.

In the event of a tie, as happened, the decision was taken by the public who gave 12 points to the song “O Jardim” and 10 to “To smile, I don't need anything”, which is performed by Catarina Miranda.

To the newspaper Observador, Catarina Miranda commented that “she was not expecting to be in second place”. "Having passed the first semi-final was already a surprise, I wasn't even counting on passing," he said.

Susana Travassos

The Algarve was also represented in the final of the Festival da Canção, which took place this Sunday, March 4, in Guimarães, by Susana Travassos.

After Diogo Piçarra gave up, the singer from Vila Real returned to the competition and, in the final, was in 10th place, with 4 points won in total.

After Salvador Sobral won the competition, now it is Cláudia Pascoal who will represent Portugal at the Eurovision Festival, scheduled for the 8th, 10th and 12th of May, in Lisbon.

Having won the last edition, Portugal is already guaranteed a presence in the grand final of Eurovision, to be held on May 12th.
