The Municipality of Silves will distribute trees of native Algarve species to all who wish, in an action included in the campaign “Reforest Portugal de Lés-a-Lés”, promoted by the Motorcycling Federation of Portugal, to which the Algarve municipality has joined.

Whoever goes to the Parish Council of São Bartolomeu de Messines tomorrow at 16 pm will be able to take with them holm oaks, cork oaks, stone pines, white poplars and strawberry trees.

«The delivery of the trees will be accompanied by leaflets that explain the advantages of planting an autochthonous tree over an unnatural species in the region, such as greater resistance to fire, promotion of more fertile soils, springs with more water and better quality of landscapes and the life of those around it», according to Câmara de Silves.

This initiative comes to Silves after having already passed through seven other municipalities that are crossed by the Portugal de Lés-a-Lés Off-Road. The action has the support of biologist Nuno Gomes Oliveira and a partnership with the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).
