The network of underground ecopoints in São Brás de Alportel will be expanded, following the conclusion of an ongoing project.

The work foresees the installation of eight recycling bins for selective and
six lions.

This is «a very significant investment for the municipality, in excess of 131 euros, which received community funding through an approved application to the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (POSEUR)», says the City of São Brás.

According to the municipality, this «type of equipment allows for a greater storage capacity for recyclable waste, adopting a more hygienic system, with less release of odors and a better quality of life for the population».

«Each new recycling bin has the capacity to store 13000 liters of recyclable waste (5000 liters for paper, 5000 liters for plastic and 3000 liters for glass). Each oil has a capacity of 120 liters», he explains.

The surface ecopoints, replaced in the meantime, will be installed in other parts of the municipality, thus increasing «the capacity and convenience for the selective disposal of waste, a gesture of utmost importance for the protection of the environment».

The Municipality of São Brás de Alportel thus promotes the conditions for increasing the population's adherence to the selective disposal of waste, in order to contribute to the reduction of waste sent to landfills, expanding its valorization and reduction, clear contributions to reach recycling targets stipulated in PERSU (Strategic Plan for Urban Waste) 2020.

The selective door-to-door collection at home, which the municipality is making available to residents of the Historic Center of São Brás de Alportel, «is another example of actions in this strategy».
