Mayors, leaders, activists and sympathizers of the PS of Monchique met, on February 17, to mark the first 100 days of the 2017-2021 municipal mandate.

This meeting was attended by national and regional leaders, such as Hélder de Oliveira, José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, and the Algarve deputy Luís Graça.

Marking the first 100 days in office, this meeting wanted to make known the dynamics of local authorities and the actions of those elected by the PS, as well as affirming that despite the electoral results in October, the Socialist Party and its mayors «do not give up on Monchique».

Paulo Alves and Humberto Sério, councilors elected by the PS, made known the position taken by the party in the City Council, justifying them and "denounced the management of the PSD executive, which is carried out carelessly and, in some cases, of dubious legality" , consider the socialists.

The socialist mayors state that, "because the Municipal Council body has been emptied of competences - which were attributed to the president and councilors of the PSD -, and because there are abstruse matters that raise doubts and there is no complete information on the part of the executive PSD, 13 requests for clarification have already been submitted, under the statute of the right of opposition, and no response has been obtained».

"The absence of information combined with the excuse or delay in replying, further aggravates the doubts that were raised", considers the PS.

Carlos Almeida, leader of PS Monchique and president of the Municipal Assembly, «shared with those present the dynamics of that municipal body that had been continuing since its installation, which advocated the pursuit of the functions of controlling the municipal action and also a larger assembly proximity to the citizens».

At the end of the event, the new edition of the newsletter “Monchique Melhor” was distributed, in which «the performance of the PS mayors» and a set of issues that, in the socialists' opinion, «raise many doubts in the management of the PSD executive in the County".

This initiative had already been scheduled for February 3rd, having been postponed due to the early death of Manuel Martins (1952-2018), which is why he was remembered at this meeting with a tribute that underlined the «good, righteous and militant Monchiquense man » and whose «life path was confused with the life of the institutions, local authorities and the associative movement to which he was linked».
