The Municipality of Silves will sensitize the youngsters to the defense of the forest against fire during the IV Civil Protection Week, which will take place between February 26th and March 2nd in different parishes of the municipality.
This initiative, aimed in particular at the school public, namely the 3rd and 4th grade students, is promoted by the Municipal Civil Protection Service (SMPC) and by the Education sector of the City Council.
The Chamber of Silves said that “a tactical demonstration of means will be carried out, involving various Civil Protection agents and entities (SMPCF; Intervention Group for Protection and Relief (GIPS) of the Republican National Guard; Service for the Protection of Nature and Environment (SEPNA) ) of the Republican National Guard (GNR), Municipal Forestry Sapadores and Municipal Education sector)».
Rosa Palma, Mayor of Silves, and Nelson Correia, Municipal Operational Commander (COM), will accompany the actions, «seeking that school communities learn and become aware that there is a need to prevent to better take care of our surroundings».
The mayor considers this week "very important for the entire council, as we are working to give tools to future generations to better take care of our land, its forests and its assets."
Rosa Palma also points out that «this is one of the activities included in the Municipality's educational offer, prepared and presented at the beginning of the school year and resulting from a joint work with the council's two School Groups, which seeks to promote the spirit of citizenship and of participation in community life”.
The activities will take place between 10:00 am and 11:00 am, in the following schools:
