Five cage traps (pits), 10 shelter traps (buckets) and a gill net 470 meters long were seized by the Maritime Police, during an inspection action in the Ria Formosa, next to the commercial wharf of the port of Faro, on the past 8th.

The Maritime Police reveals that these professional fishing gears “had no identification or signage, being found to be in breach and thus constituting a danger to navigation”. For this reason, they were "seized as a precaution", and the respective notices were collected.

The inspection of the PM devoted "special attention to the possible detection of illegal capture methods, in particular the seahorse species, a protected species that is in danger of extinction".

Several professional and recreational fishing vessels were inspected. In a professional fishing boat that was "exercising its activity", the Maritime Police detected that its crew were not wearing their life jackets.
