Delminda Moura, from the University of Algarve, and José Brilha, from the University of Minho, are invited to a session that will discuss the natural heritage of Ponta da Piedade, this Friday, February 23, from 21 pm, at the Science Center Live from Lagos.

The Center invited two geologists to share with all those interested the geological, paleontological and landscape richness of this ex-libris of the city of Lagos.

The presentations of these two elements of the Scientific Committee of the Center are entitled “Ponta da Piedade – a paradigm of fragile beauty” and “What Sustainability without Geodiversity?”.

This landscape, «formed and shaped over millions of years, it has currently been the subject of great public discussion” and the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, as an institution promoting scientific and technological culture, promotes this evening dedicated to geological knowledge of Ponta da Piedade.

For Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, executive director of the Center and doctorate and specialist in Paleontology, «it is essential that all citizens know better the natural heritage, in this case geological and paleontological, so that they can enjoy and defend it better».

The official adds that, "if we all better understand how the landscape that now constitutes Ponta da Piedade was formed and evolved, we will be able to better enjoy this natural wealth that the city of Lagos has to offer to those who live here and those who visit it" .

«These two specialists will contribute to making this Lagos landscape better known and better protected in a context of natural heritage», says the Lagos CCV.

In the case of José Brilha, in addition to his academic curriculum, the Center will be able to count on the opinion of the current president of ProGeo, the European Association for the Conservation of Geological Heritage, an association dedicated to the study and classification of sites of geological interest in Europe , being also UNESCO evaluator for Geoparks.

Delminda Moura, on the other hand, is a specialist in coastal geomorphology with an emphasis on rocky coasts and coastal evolution forced by changes in sea level.
