Students from the 8th and 9th years of the Alberto Iria Group rolled up their sleeves and cleaned the salt pans located on the west side of Avenida 5 de Outubro, next to the municipal shipyard in Olhão. The action, carried out within the scope of the SOS 4 Love project, involved 350 students.

Garbage collection, «an initiative of the students themselves», was carried out by a project of the United Nations (UN) «which encourages students and teachers to, through the power of love, intervene and act in a practical way in the search for solutions for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals» proposed by this international entity, according to the Chamber of Olhão.

The young people from Olho used as a reference the objective nº14 of the UN initiative, “which is related to the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”.

"This initiative was not isolated, and also includes environmental awareness actions among young people in Olhão in Carnival parades, as well as lectures on environmental problems in classrooms in other schools in the municipality," added the Chamber of Olhão.
