The Portuguese Nurses Union (SEP) met with nurses from the Hospital de Faro, this Wednesday, to "talk about the difficulties felt and, more importantly, discuss proposals for solutions." The union members will now prepare a document to present to the Board of Directors (CA) of the Hospital and University Center of the Algarve (CHUA), «with a request for a meeting».

According to the SEP, the meeting with its representatives also gave rise to "the possibility of promoting a debate involving all partners, including municipalities, with the aim of deciding on the necessary integrated responses".

At a time when the administration of the algarvian hospitals is strengthening its teams, unionists remember that this happened following a meeting they held with CHUA, last year.

At that meeting, the union “claimed the immediate entry of nurses and an increase in the staffing map to 1800 nurses, whose proposal the CA considered adequate”.

Shortly thereafter, the procedure for hiring 96 nurses was opened, who, as Sul Informação advanced this Wednesday, is in the authorization process.

This procedure has already begun to bear fruit, bearing in mind that «today two nurses started their duties» at the Hospital de Faro, as revealed by union representatives of this professional class.

"Replacement contracts are also being requested for long-term leave/absences, as the SEP also claimed, because, for a period, this procedure was not being carried out," he added.

Despite these victories, union members consider it “unacceptable that nurses have not been authorized to deal with the increased influx of patients to the hospital, under the flu contingency, forcing the internal mobility of nurses, jeopardizing the regular functioning of the other services ».

"The SEP demands that the Ministry of Finance quickly authorize the number of contracts already proposed and expects the CA to propose a plan for admission to the Ministry of Health for another 308 nurses", concluded the union.
