A idea of the Chamber of Faro and from CCMAR to the Commercial Port of the Algarve capital, the Farformosa project, is attracting investors and was welcomed «generally» by the Minister of the Sea, who decided to create a working group «with the objective of presenting the Spatial Planning Plan for the Commercial Port of Faro and to the Commercial Wharf». The order that formalizes the creation of this group was published in Diário da República, on January 2nd.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, advanced to Sul Informação that, in a meeting with Ana Paula Vitorino, in December, “we presented our vision for that space. The minister welcomed the idea in general and what was agreed was that we create this commission that, in 90 days, would carry out the study to advance towards the urbanization of the space, along the lines we had defined».

According to the mayor, the fact that the publication of the order, which formalizes the creation of the working group, has already been done, «is very gratifying for us and, in the next 90 days, we will be able to take measures regarding the future of that space, which is there to abandonment and it serves no one».

The mayor of Faro he told our newspaper that he has been receiving contacts from “investors and investor representatives, both foreign and national, asking for information. Today, we will have one more person wanting to know what will happen in that space. This gives us some guarantees that, if things are developed well, they can be a reality and an asset for the region and for the country».

In the order published by the Ministry of the Sea, it is read that the working group created has the objective «to present the Spatial Planning Plan for the Commercial Port of Faro and to the Commercial Wharf”, including activities and zones destined to specific and diversified activities in the Sea area, the project schedule for the implementation of the objectives, the strategic environmental assessment and the economic-financial assessment of the project.

The tutelage considers that "the development and creation of infrastructure for activities related to scientific research, entrepreneurship in maritime activities, recreation, nautical and maritime sports and tourism will create synergies for the harmonious growth of the city".

This working group is composed of a representative of the Minister of the Sea, three representatives of the Chamber of Faro, a representative of the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve, a representative of Docapesca and a representative of the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera.

The Farformosa project was conceived by the CCMAR of the University of Algarve and the Chamber of Faro and foresees the creation of an enterprise that combines the research and teaching component with tourism, namely with the construction of a marina, an aquarium, several hotels and care homes for the elderly.
