Maria João and the “Moçoilas” get together this Sunday, January 14, from 17 pm, for a concert at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, in Loulé.

This will be a meeting between the worlds of jazz and traditional music.

In other words: between the prestigious singer Maria João and the irreverent Moçoilas, a group of three women who interpret songs from the South of the country.

The percussionist Quiné Teles also participates in this show, with the musical direction of the concert entrusted to the prestigious João Frade (accordion and electronics) and João Farinha (Fender Rhodes and synthesizers).

«Maria João's career has been marked by her participation in the most renowned music festivals in the world. A journey that began at the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz School and which, in a few years, went beyond borders, making Maria João one of the few Portuguese singers acclaimed abroad», says Câmara de Loulé.

The official recognition of the dissemination of Portuguese culture around the world earned him the Commendation of the Order of Infante D. Henrique by the hands of the President of the Republic Jorge Sampaio. She is also the only Portuguese artist to have been nominated for the European Jazz Prize along with Jamie Cullum and Bobo Stenson.

The “Moçoilas” (Inês Rosa, Margarida Guerreiro and Teresa Silva) «bring the soul of the hills of the mountains – and of the corners of the earth, and of many other themes inspired there, in their tones, in their sounds and smells, in their outward voice that echoes and is transported», considers the municipality.

This trio of women "takes back many of the old themes and enriches them with their own energy, modifying some, appropriating others and preparing the way for new melodies, new songs".

The concert, which is part of the musical cycle “O Longo é Aqui”, will be preceded by the presentation of artistic proposals that are part of the Cine-Teatro program for the period between January and June.

The concert lasts for 120 minutes. Tickets cost 10 euros, increasing to 8 euros for people over 65 or under 30 years of age. If you want to buy tickets, click here. The Friend Card is applicable to this show.
