The photograph “Azuis na noite”, by João Rodrigues, which depicts two juvenile blue sharks swimming 10 miles southwest of Cabo de São Vicente (Vila do Bispo), won an honorable mention in “Cinclus”, the most prestigious contest of Portugal nature photography. 

Underwater Natural History photographer João Rodrigues, resident in the Algarve for over a decade, has dedicated most of his time to capturing images of marine life in the sea of ​​Vila do Bispo.

This honorable mention was won in the “Fauna” category.

Through photography, its mission is to raise awareness and raise awareness of the need to conserve species that are endangered in the oceans, such as the blue shark (Prionace glauca), which is in decline due to overfishing.

João Rodrigues was the first underwater photographer to photograph these animals at night, in the waters of Portugal.
