Lagoa assumes itself, in 2018, as an Educating City, but nevertheless it will try to establish a position in other sectors, namely in the economic one. The Lagoon City Council is going to launch a new event this year, the first Real Estate Exhibition in the Algarve, an initiative with which the mayor of the municipality Francisco Martins is counting on helping to boost this sector of activity, in the municipality and in the region.

«This Real Estate Exhibition, the big news for this year, will be the first in the Algarve and of the few – I think the second or third – that take place at national level. It will take place between the 7th and 9th of June», said Francisco Martins, on the sidelines of the ceremony to commemorate the 245 years of Lagoa becoming a municipality, which took place on Saturday at the Centro de Congressos do Arade.

This event will seek to «make known the Algarve's real estate offer, as well as the various agents linked to the real estate market and the activities related to this business area», summarizes the Câmara de Lagoa, in its description of the event.

"The Algarve Real Estate Salon intends to become, as a present and for the future project, a reference that adds value both to clients and to professionals of the multiple services linked to the real estate market", added the municipality.

This is just one of the events that Câmara de Lagoa has planned for this year, most of which are linked to “Lagoa Cidade Educadora 2018”, the theme chosen by the municipality for 2018.

«We have been choosing themes for different years – wine, the sea, our people and heritage – and, in this mandate, we decided to take causes. And we started with what we consider to be the most structuring, the basis of our citizenship, which is education. We intend to instill a change in society, in terms of mentality, that education is not limited to schools. All of society must be educators and all citizens are recipients of education. It is this paradigm that we want to bring to Lagoa», summarized the mayor of Lagoa.

Throughout the year, initiatives associated with this theme will be promoted, namely in the areas of culture and sport, but projects directly related to education will also be promoted.

The anchor projects in the area of education are “Playing with Words”, aimed at children under the age of 5, “Sopros da Nova Filarmónica de Lagoa”, an artistic education project aimed at children, young people and adults in the municipality. , “Amarte: Meditation for Children”, to be promoted in kindergartens, and “Portal B: Alerting to help”, an initiative linked to the prevention of violence in schools.

Also with regard to education through art, the municipality will count on the help of the legend of Porches to pass the little animal from theater to children in Lagos.

In the field of cultural initiatives, much of what is planned are already consolidated events, namely «the Feira do Doce Conventual, the Mercado de Cultura à Luz das Velas, which this year will be dedicated to Africa, the Black & White Night in Carvoeiro, the Fatacil, the Festival of Living Statues and the Guitar Festival». But local people can also count on the Sons do Fado Festival, in February and March, with HumorFest, with the Semana Coral de Lagoa, with the Arade Music Fest and with the Lagoa Jazz Fest, at Sítio das Fontes Park.

«On February 12th, we will host, at the Arade Congress Center, the celebrations of the Chinese New Year, a partnership with the Chinese Embassy that will bring a number of groups from that country to Lagoa, including monks from Shaolin. It will be a unique spectacle», assured the mayor of Lagos.

It should be remembered that Lagoa has strong ties with China, as General Rocha Vieira, the last Portuguese governor of Macau, is from Lagoa.

In sport, emphasis on the Youth Olympics, which between March and June, will bring the biggest national promises to Lagoa, in different sports, namely basketball (March 3rd), handball (March 10th), badminton (March 17th), athletics (May 19th), football (May 26th) and canoeing (June 2nd).

In addition, «three of the stages of the Volta ao Algarve pass through Lagoa and one of them, the time trial, takes place entirely in the municipality».

«Lagoa is a lively municipality, always on the move, whether in culture, sport or education», considered Francisco Martins.
