The Algarve's health services prepared for the flu peak with the reinforcement of human resources and the extension of opening hours at the Health Centers «in Lagoa, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, de Faro, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Alcoutim».
«All the health units in the region, whether the hospital emergencies of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), or the Health Centers, are prepared to, in case of need, respond in an articulated manner to a possible increase in the influx of users to their services», assured the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve.
With these measures, the entity responsible for the National Health Service of the Algarve intends to «guarantee the provision of health care to the population in cases of acute illness such as flu and respiratory infections».
In hospitals in the region, more professionals were placed in the emergency room. In addition, 20 of the 40 beds activated under the flu contingency plan are already being used.
In the Health Centres, inflow has been monitored daily, «and the opening hours of the Health Centres, namely the Open Consultation (Consultation of the Resource of the Day), will be adapted to a possible increase in the number of users».
The Algarve's ARS also revealed that «a total of 37.273 flu vaccines were already administered in the Algarve region for free by the end of December, which, compared to the same period last year, represents an increase of 3400 people vaccinated for free. in the region".
