30 immigrants from Ukraine, Guinea-Bissau, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Nepal and India received fluency diplomas in the Portuguese language, after having successfully completed a training program promoted by the Albufeira Council, through CLAIM – Local Support Center for the Integration of Migrants .

This Portuguese language course was aimed at residents of Albufeira coming from other countries and aimed to «equalize the opportunity of these people in access, namely, to employment», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

The classes took place between the 30th of October and the 5th of December at Escola Fixa de Trânsito and were guided by a certified trainer.

Of the trainees who participated in the action, «17 were women and 11 have higher education, four have completed secondary education, four attended the education corresponding to the 9th year and two, the 1st cycle. One of the common reasons for these trainees is the need for fluency in writing and speaking in Portuguese in order to obtain more and better jobs».

The Municipality of Albufeira intends to promote other similar training actions, «especially in the so-called “low season”, as a way of integration and support to all those who chose Albufeira as a new life opportunity».

«The Municipality of Albufeira, in addition to the training it has provided, also offers, to migrants residing in the municipality, the services of CLAIM – Local Support Center for the Integration of Migrants, which provides support in matters related to legalization, work, health , education, family reunification, nationality and voluntary return», concluded the municipality.
