The short story “Alfaiate”, by Helena Tapadinhas, is the winner of the Santos Stockler/2017 Literary Prize, an initiative of the Municipality of Lagoa.
The Jury's decision was taken at a meeting on 12 January. This decision, taken unanimously, was justified by the Jury in the following terms: "the short story combines all the qualities provided for in the criteria, expresses a remarkable capacity for literary fixation of the municipality's intangible heritage and reveals a depth that gives it an evident universality" .
The Prize consists of the monetary value of 10.000 euros, to which the publication of the work is added.
In addition to the first distinction, the same Jury also decided to award six Honorable Mentions to the short stories “Camaleão”, by Ana Maria Nunes Gonçalves, “A casa de Verão”, by Isabel Rio Novo, “A vida in a clay dish”, by Carla Marisa P. Vieira Pais, “Nepomuceno in the land of the possi- bles”, by David Eduardo V. Roque, “ Fleeting memories”, by Paulo M. Morais and “Da Permanence”, by António Conduto Oliveira.
The Santos Stockler Literary Prize was established by the Municipality of Lagoa in 2016 with the aim of promoting, defending and valuing the Portuguese language and the municipality's socio-cultural identity and diversity, promoting and encouraging literary creation, a taste for writing and reading, and, still, pay homage to the poet, journalist and novelist from Lagoa Santos Stockler.
This year, the awards are part of the program for the Commemorations of the 245 years since the creation of this municipality.
The handover ceremony will take place on January 27, at 15:30 pm, at Quinta dos Vales. On the same occasion, the public presentation of the book that integrates the two Honorable Mentions awarded in the 2016 Award will take place. The 3rd edition of the Santos Stockler 2018/19 Award will also be presented.
