JSD's Algarve District Political Commission guaranteed that it has already contacted both candidacies for the party's leadership, at national level, but that it has only had, for now, a (and positive) response from Pedro Santana Lopes to participate in a debate taking place in the Algarve.
Rui Rio has also been invited, but has not yet responded, adds the same structure.
In a public clarification on "the state of play of the debate "Regionalization and Decentralization", the president of JSD/Algarve Carlos Gouveia Martins said that he had already personally invited Pedro Santana Lopes, taking advantage of his presence in Loulé, "who accepted the invitation".
Likewise, Rui Rio, who, for now, has only been approached through a formal letter - to which he has not yet responded -, will be personally invited by a member of the JSD District Political Commission when he comes to the region, on Sunday, to a meeting with militants in Lagos.
In the same clarification Carlos Gouveia Martins says that he will not be able to personally invite Rui Rio, as happened with his opponent in the PSD leadership race, because he will be absent from the country "for personal reasons", which will prevent him from being in the session of day 10.
With regard to the debate itself, young social democrats in the Algarve are still waiting for an answer from the candidacy of the former mayor of Porto. Meanwhile, João Montenegro, campaign director for Santana Lopes, is already «streamlining the choice of dates».
«Given the absence of an answer from Dr. Rui Rio, we submitted a new request via email to the National Candidacy Headquarters on December 4, in an attempt to find a possible date for the aforementioned debate. In this sense, we also send the same request to the director of the Algarve district campaign of Dr. Rui Rio, Bruno Sousa Costa», guaranteed the president of JSD at regional level.
