The common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), an "unusual amount" of staples (Grampus griseus), but also an orca (Orcinus orca). These were some of the cetaceans sighted in 2017, “a very rich year”, by the company Dream Wave, which is dedicated to nautical tourism and the sighting of these species in the wild, from the Marina de Albufeira.

«As has been customary and as in previous years, 2017 was very rich in terms of quantity and quality of cetacean observations», said this company, in its balance sheet for the year.

Thus, eight different species of cetaceans were sighted, being the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), the common dolphin and the common dolphin (phocoena phocoena) the most observed species.

«In this year that has just ended, the unusual amount of sightings of staples is noteworthy, since 12 different observations constitute, by themselves, a new maximum for this species. The orca was also observed, but only once», explains Dream Wave.

dwarf whale

In the case of whales, three species were observed - dwarf whale (acutorostrata Balaenoptera), Fin Whale (Balaenoptera physalus) and finally the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae), species observed only three times during the 14 years of activity of the Dream Wave.

With these numbers, «2018 is foreseen as a milestone year for the company, not only for the celebration of its 15th anniversary, but also for a clear commitment to increasing the offer in response to the growing demand, as a result of the significant increase in tourists who flock to to the Algarve and Albufeira, in particular».

In this sense, the acquisition of the commercial operation of another maritime-tourism company "revealed essential to proceed with the increase of the fleet and the consequent increase in supply for the 2018 season".
