A performance where the dishes are broken (even) and done, literally, with the heart in the hand. the performance cataplay will premiere on Sunday, December 10, at 18 pm, at Tertúlia Algarvia, in Vila-Adentro de Faro, and the show is ready to be presented, as those who attended the press rehearsal that the promoters of the initiative organized this Tuesday, at that restaurant in Cidade Velha Farense, proved.

Tânia Silva and Mário Spencer, this time dressed up and in the place where the action of this first Cataplay will take place, showed some scenes of this show inspired by the cataplana, where, with a good dose of humor, "life is talked about", but where the public will also have the opportunity to taste a dish made to order, with this typical algarvian utensil.

O Sul Informação had already watched a rehearsal of the play last week and talked to actress Tânia Silva, who created the project, and João de Brito, director invited by her and by Mário Spencer, the other protagonist of Cataplay, to direct the play. On Tuesday, our newspaper was at Tertúlia Algarvia to see this essay, already with costumes and props.

Among the latter, the hearts, still fresh and bloody, stand out, as well as the dishes that fly from the actors' hands to shatter on the floor. Moments with a stronger visual impact, but which are only a small part of what will be cataplay.

This is the story of “an Arab chef and a marfada cook”, who compete to see who has the best cataplana recipe. And it's not just about food recipes for the body, but also food for the soul. «In this cataplana, everything is cooked», illustrates Joana Guita Pinto, author of the text of the play, who was present at the rehearsal.

And the result is approved, at least as far as João Amaro is concerned, president of the Tertúlia Algarvia association, the promoter of this play, which is part of the programming of the “365Algarve” program.

«I think the recipe is complete, so that the final product is very good and appreciated. From the beginning, we loved the idea of joining the cataplana to a play. This is another level that will make the Algarve gastronomy better known», he said.

In this case, the way to reach the heart (the one that beats in the chest of those who watch the play, not the one that no longer throbs in the actors' hands) is through culture. But, it has to be admitted, the smell of the cataplana on the fire that invades the room during the show and the opportunity to taste the delicacy, at the end, also promise to be a good help.
