A rupture in the main engine of the “Mira Sado” career boat caused the vessel to drift, when it tried to dock at the core of the Farol, in the Ria Formosa, this Tuesday, December 5th. The six passengers and crew are doing well, but the warning for this situation was not given by the master of the boat.

According to the SOS Ria Formosa movement, in a publication on the social network Facebook, «given the reluctance of the boat's master to implement the procedures for requesting help, which are normal in these situations, we were forced to alert the captaincy of the port of Olhão to the situation, which immediately sent resources to the site».

Nunes Ferreira, captain of the Port of Olhão, assured the Sul Informação, that the situation “will be evaluated”.

According to SOS Ria Formosa, the «master of the career boat, despite the appeals, did not call the means of assistance, nor any request for help, which is absolutely inadmissible for a public transport boat, in which lives could be at risk human beings'.

The career ended up being rescued on Deserta Island, both by a nursery boat, which took the passengers to the Farol, as by a vessel from the Olhão lifeguard station and another from the Maritime Police.

The captain of the Port of Olhão also told our newspaper that, after repairing the damage to the boat moored in Deserta, the vessel returned to Olhão, with no passengers. More inquiries will now take place.

“We hope that all the circumstances and responsibilities are cleared in a situation that ended up having a happy ending, but which could have been much more serious. We demand that this type of attitude is not repeated again», concludes the movement.
