Via Algarviana will be the stage for «the longest ultra trail race held in Portugal», between November 30th and December 3rd. 60 athletes from 6 nationalities will have 72 hours to travel the approximately 300 kilometers that separate Alcoutim from Vila do Bispo, through the paths of the Algarve mountains.

The Algarviana Ultra Trail (ALUT) is presented by its promoters as «the race that will put the Algarve to the test». It starts in Alcoutim, next to the Guadiana River, and ends on December 3, next to Cabo de São Vicente, in Vila do Bispo.

The competition will bring together athletes from Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Scotland. «The Portuguese represent the bulk of the entries, with athletes from north to south of the country and islands», according to ALUT's promoters.

On the way, both the brave and those who accompany them will be able to get to know nine municipalities in the Algarve – Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves, Monchique, Lagos and Vila do Bispo – and cross the trails of the mountains of Caldeirão, Monchique and Aljezur.

The course of the race passes “almost exclusively on Via Algarviana”.
