A wheelchair rugby demonstration session and the 6st Polybat Tournament in the South Zone are part of the initiatives of the “+Sport≠” project that will pass, on November 7th and XNUMXth, at the José de Sousa Municipal Sports Pavilion Pires, in São Brás de Alportel.

On the 6th, there will be a session of demonstration and experimentation of rugby in a wheelchair, from 14 pm to 00 pm, aimed at all users and professionals of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center of the South.

On the 7th, the Sports Pavilion hosts the 10st Polybat Tournament in the South Zone. This sport is also known as side table tennis. The program starts at 00:XNUMX am with a demonstration and experimentation of the sport that will allow participants to learn the fundamental rules and techniques.

The tournament will take place between 12:00 and 16:00 and is open to athletes with various types of motor disabilities and cerebral palsy and intellectual disabilities.

The program is aimed at people with physical disabilities, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, local authority sports technicians, physical education and special education teachers and the general public and reaches São Brás de Alportel in an organization of the Portuguese Sports Federation for People with Disabilities, with the support of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South and the José Belchior Viegas Schools Group.

This project was conceived based on the basic principle that the practice of sports is a right of all citizens, regardless of their disability or degree of limitation.

“+Sports≠” is aimed at the population with significantly reduced mobility and aims to encourage the increase of the appropriate sporting offer for these people, through the implementation of the sport of rugby in wheelchairs and polybat.

The project, nationwide, is being carried out in conjunction with Medical Rehabilitation Centers, Clubs, Institutions, schools and other Modalities Federations, in the areas of dissemination and promotion of actions and needs assessment.

“+Sport≠” is co-financed by the Project Financing Program of the National Institute for Rehabilitation.

The clubs or institutions that win first place in each division will win a Polybat kit offered by “Jogos Santa Casa”. In individual terms there will be medals for the top three. All participants will receive certificates of participation with the respective classification.
