The 19rd edition of the Tavira CPSE – Liberty Seguros Half Marathon, scheduled for next Sunday, November 10, at 00:XNUMX am, will pass through the coast, barrocal and mountain ranges, which makes this race “unique”.

In addition to the half marathon, with a distance of 21 kilometers, there will also be a mini marathon with 12,5 kilometers and a family solidarity march of 7,5 kilometers.

José Barradas, president from the direction of the Casa do Povo of Santo Estêvão, which organizes the event, told the Sul Informação that this year's edition has novelties along the way: “there are improvements, both for athletes and for the community. It's a street competition, city, and if we can avoid inconvenience for the residents, the better. This morning is not like any other, there are always disturbances, with closed streets, and there is a group of streets that we have chosen to close, to minimize the disturbance».

Repeating last year's recipe, «the route passes through three natural areas of the municipality: the coast, the barrocal and the mountains, and this makes it unique».

If, last year, the rain was present in the competition, this year, the prospects are for a "sunny" day, which invites to a morning of sport that will also have "animation in Praça da República, where families can enjoy inflatables , for example. We also have a DJ to liven up those present, as well as our speakers».

Anyone in the center of Tavira can also follow the race, as it "departs and arrives at the city center and has two passes through the finish zone".

In addition to the competitive aspect, with the half and mini marathon, José Barradas also highlights the journey «which always has a solidarity component and where people can participate for free. However, if participants want to have a gesture of solidarity, with a donation of 2 euros, they receive a t-shirt of the initiative, offered by Liberty. This money will be channeled to the Temporary Shelter Center A Gaivota, of the Tavira Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross».

José Barradas hopes that, this year, “there will be more people on the walk, taking into account the weather conditions. We believe that we will have a record number of subscribers to contribute and participate».

This is the third edition of the event and José Barradas admits that «there is still a long way to go. We don't want to compare ourselves with other geographies, like Lisbon or Porto, district capitals with millions of inhabitants. We have a competition on a regional scale, where the main athletes in the region are registered».

Ana Dias, Ana Cabecinha, Patrícia Serafim, or Jorge Varela are confirmed names, and there will also be «Romanian, Spanish, Sporting and Benfica athletes. At a competitive level it will be a good test».

During this weekend, during the low season, the Half Marathon of Tavira will also help the local economy because «many of the participants come the day before and stay in the city. There is a financial income in the restoration, in the hotel industry and, if we continue like this, certainly that this contribution, in the future, will be even greater». Even because «we want the competition to mark, at this time of year, the sporting panorama in the Algarve».

For José Barradas, «all the conditions are in place for a day of celebration, sharing and physical activity, where we can still have a gesture of solidarity», he concludes.

The Half Marathon is organized by the Casa do Povo of Santo Estêvão, and is sponsored by Liberty Seguros and supported by the Municipality of Tavira and the Parish of Tavira.
