On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of November, the 105st Intensive Course in Obstetrics and Pediatrics for General and Family Medicine Physicians gathered XNUMX trainees at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

«During the three days of the training action, the hospital specialists presented several communications on the main pathologies and most frequent clinical situations in primary care in the scope of Obstetrics and Pediatrics», explains the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve (CHUA).

The panel of speakers included, in addition to professionals from CHUA's two specialties, specialists from other hospital units in the country who brought their experiences with other realities to the debate, «leaving their contribution to improving the provision of health care to users in the Algarve ».

Satisfied with the success of the initiative, Fernando Guerreiro, director of the Department of Gynecology/Obstetrics and Human Reproduction at CHUA, promised a new training action aimed at Primary Health Care physicians, for next year.

«With this course, in which we were able to compile the most relevant themes in terms of Obstetrics and Pediatrics, we want to give colleagues in health centers confidence in the treatment of the most common pathologies, strengthening the bonds of mutual help for counseling and referral of situations more complex that require referral to the hospital consultation», he said.

«It is the second course that we have organized (in 2016 we had the Gynecology course) and, given its success, this year we have already received many requests from professionals from various regions – more than we were able to respond due to logistical reasons. For the next course, which we are already working on, there is the promise of a larger room to respond to all interested professionals», concluded Fernando Guerreiro.

This course was organized by the Gynecology/Obstetrics service of the Portimão Hospital Unit, in partnership with the Barlavento Algarvio Maternity Training and Research Association.
