The X Feira da Perdiz, which took place on November 11th and 12th, in Martim Longo (Alcoutim), "returned to convince" the visitors, closing "with a positive balance".

This is, in fact, «an event of reference in the sector that attracts thousands of visitors every year. This year there was an increase compared to the previous year», according to the City Council of Alcoutim.

In addition to the traditional fair model, where companies from the sector and companies and institutions from the municipality with traditional products were present, the poster of the Perdiz Fair had a series of parallel activities.

For example: the mountain bike ride, a running march, and the showcooking “Choose our Food”, by chefs Vítor Ramos and Rui Conqueiro, who showed the potential of the prickly pear.

There were also the “Opuntia Ficus-indica Technical Journeys”, where the most recent issues related to prickly pear production were addressed by a group of renowned experts. One workshop, a dog contest and a greyhound race were some of the activities presented.

"Hunting is an attraction for many thousands of visitors, lovers of the sport, from all regions of the country, who come to us every year at this time of year, giving a strong boost to the local economy", stressed Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Chamber of Alcoutim , in the opening speech of the event.

Also present were Miguel Freitas, Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, Fernando Severino, Regional Director for Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve, Desidério Silva, President of the Algarve Tourism Region, Custódio Moreno, Regional Director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and da Juventude, and the socialist deputy António Eusébio, among other local and regional entities.

The event was promoted by the Municipality of Alcoutim and the ADECMAR Association, with the support of the Federation of Hunters of the Algarve, Parish Council of Martim Longo, Tourist Hunting Zone of Pereiro – Hunting, Association “A Moira”, Inter-Vivos Association , Viveiros Monterosa, Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve and Municipality of Tavira.
