The 19th edition of the Meeting of Academic Tunas of São Brás de Alportel takes place on the 4th of November, at 21 pm, at the Cineteatro in that town.
Over the course of two hours, the public is invited to let themselves be captivated by the academic spirit.
This year the tunas to participate are TMIST (Mista Tuna of Instituto Superior Técnico, founded in 2006), TAFUÉ (Tuna Académica Feminina da Universidade de Évora, founded in 1997), TUBA (Tuna Academica de Belas Artes de Lisboa, founded in 2014) and the Versus Tuna (Academic Tuna of the University of Algarve, male tuna founded in 1992).
The Meeting of Academic Tunas of São Brás de Alportel began in 1998, at the initiative of Associação Cultural Sambrasense, which sought to create an event for young people from São Brás de Alportel that would attract young people from other parts of the Algarve to the town of São Brás de Alportel.
«The Portuguese academic tunas are musical groups made up of students and former students of higher education who, in their repertoire, favor traditional Portuguese music and often have their own repertoire inspired by academic life and love and disaffection. Along with the music, another of the charms of these meetings is the good mood and humor that the singers bring to the public», says the City of São Brás.
«Each academic tuna wears the attire of the academy they represent. They take the colors and banner of their academy to the stage», he adds.
«Traditionally male, with the entry of women into the academic world, the tunas ended up being divided into male, mixed and female tunas. At the 19th Meeting of Academic Tunas of São Brás de Alportel this diversity is present», he explains.
This initiative is organized by the Associação Cultural Sambrasense and has the support of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel and several local commercial establishments.
Tickets are on sale, for 2 euros for students and 3 euros for the general public, at the Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel. On the day of the show, they can be purchased at the ticket office of the Cineteatro de São Brás.
