The exhibition “Ariadne”, by Elizabeth Almeida, will be on display at the Convento Espírito Santo Art Gallery, in Loulé, from November 10th to December 30th. The inauguration of the exhibition, scheduled for the 10th, at 18 pm, will include a tasting of national fish by Docapesca.

Docapesca explains that Ariadne is a «character of Greek/Roman mythology, daughter of Minos and Pasiphae, known as the “Lady of the Labyrinth” and also for her famous thread called the Thread of Ariadne».

Ariadne “was in charge of guarding and commanding the Labyrinth, the place where sacrifices were made in honor of Neptune. The immolated people were abandoned to their fate, and slowly devoured by a monster that lived there», adds the entity, which supports the exhibition.

Artist Elizabeth Almeida explains that «under this analogy, and despite the Maze representing confusion, repetition, a puzzle or an ethical dilemma, which slowly devours the individual, the thread and in this case Ariadne's, it symbolizes the ability to find all possible solutions to a problem'.

For the artist, «logic makes use of Ariadne's threads in a labyrinth of almost illogical and at times contradictory and repetitive thoughts, where fear, deceit and illusion often reign».

The exhibition, which has the seal of UNESCO and the International Year of Light, and the patronage of the Millennium BCP Foundation, will be open from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 17:30 pm, and on Saturdays, from 9:30 am to 16:00 pm, with free entry.

Elizabeth Almeida is a native of Montreal, Canada, and has a degree in Communication Design from
Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon (1996). She works as an artist, set designer, art director and designer.

In 2015, she was invited by UNESCO to create the prize in honor of Professor Mariano Gago for World Science Day.

His exhibitions “Purification”, “Neptune”, “Orion”, as well as the present “Ariadne”, were recognized and supported by UNESCO with the seal of the International Year of Light.

According to Docapesca, his artistic path goes through several galleries and national monuments, having won 1995nd Prize in 2 at the Traiettorie Sonore de Musica Contaminatta, in the area of Music and Visual Arts – Como, Italy».
