Three hundred canoeists, belonging to 20 clubs, seven of which are Spanish, participated this Sunday, 15 October, in the 20th International Ascent of the Rio Arade, which started at Portimão, passed through Lagoa waters and reached Silves, in a total of 12 kilometers upstream.

The event, organized by the Clube Naval de Portimão, attracted around fifty competitors from Spain. There was also the presence of national participants from places as far away as Vila do Conde and Funchal. All of this, according to a statement from the organization, demonstrates "the prestige of the competition".

The competitors were divided into 23 categories, according to gender, age and type of vessel.

As a complement to the official competition, eighty tourist-class canoes, with a slower pace, left about half an hour earlier, following the same route.

The rough waters between the departure location, next to the facilities of the Clube Naval de Portimão, and the first bridge, turned several boats, which led to some abandonment. But from the bridges, the influence of the sea was lost and the race went without incident.

The fastest winners, under 53 minutes, were CLMérida's David Sanchez/Juan Gallardo, K2, senior, 00:50:34:13; Hugo Martins/João Duarte, from CCAmora, K2, cadet, at 00:50:34:68; Rudolfo Neves, from CNFunchal, K1, senior, at 00:51:06:09 and Iago Bebiano, from KCCArade, K1, cadet, at 00:52:48:84).

In the senior K2 race, the three participants were under 52 minutes.

By teams, they won CCAmora, which also won the trophy for the club with the highest number of participants.
