A 65-year-old English tourist, who was knocked down by a wave at Praia da Salema, in Vila do Bispo, this Tuesday, October 24th, suffered "a severe trauma to the head and neck" and was transported to the Hospital from Portimão with suspected cervical fracture.

According to the Maritime Authority, "the alert was received at 16:55 pm at the picket of the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos," which assisted the victim.

The man, "according to the information gathered, was taking a bath, when a wave wrapped him up, projecting him against the sand of the beach, lying still and complaining of pain in his head and neck."

After an initial assessment and assistance provided by the Vila do Bispo Firefighters, “the victim was stabilized, with the placement of a cervical collar and oxygenation,” says the Maritime Authority.

The man "still complained of tingling in the upper and lower limbs, suspecting a possible fracture in the neck, so an INEM ambulance manned with a doctor and a nurse was called."

After being observed by INEM, the man was transported to the Hospital de Portimão.
