Eight marine patrols of the Navy are in the Algarve in «deterrent and preventive fire patrols» until 20:00 on the next Thursday, 26th of October. The military began the operation on Sunday, the 22nd, at 8:00 am.

According to the Navy, "the patrols were requested by the National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC), through the General Staff of the Armed Forces and so far involve 61 marines and 17 vehicles."

Across the country, 13 patrols were activated, with the Algarve being the region with the largest number of deployed soldiers. In addition to the district of Faro, there are also marines with the same functions in Setúbal (three patrols) and Portalegre (two patrols).

In this district, «in particular, the marines have acted with the population in actions of deterrence and prevention against fires, although there is no record of any occurrence», concludes the Navy.
