In Faro, after having made public news about alleged mistreatment by two employees of that children's center. 

The case was denounced by Correio da Manhã, which said that these employees "were suspended from office for alleged mistreatment of several babies aged between six months and two years of age."

In view of this, the Diocese of Algarve clarifies that "the management of Caritas Diocesana, as soon as it became aware of these events, in July 2017, immediately suspended the employees who allegedly practiced these acts and started the respective disciplinary process".

In the news from Correio da Manhã, Cátia Marçalo, who has even taken her child out of the nursery, reveals: «my son, seven months old, came with marks, but I started by thinking it was normal, because babies get hurt each other. I just started to think not when he started to appear with signs that looked like fingernails, on his neck, and marks that looked like adult fingers, on his face».

The Creche Despertar is owned by Caritas of the Diocese of Algarve, which adds that “the direction of the diocesan Caritas has taken steps with the Public Prosecutor's Office, so that this body would investigate these alleged attacks, and the process is currently under judicial secrecy”.

“The Bishop of the Diocese of Algarve, informed of this process by the leadership of Caritas Diocesana, expressed his support and confidence. He also requested that this process be handled in accordance with the laws in force in these circumstances” and “with the knowledge of the parents concerned”, concludes the statement.
