“I want to thank all those who created many difficulties for me in my previous terms of office. Thanks to them, I am today a much more capable politician, much more secure”, “recognized nationally and internationally”. Socialist Adelino Soares, who took office today for his third and last term as president of the Vila do Bispo Chamber, did not dispense with irony in his speech.

Without referring to any of the various projects that were part of his electoral program, the mayor highlighted the "very expressive majority" attributed to him in the elections of 1 October, but assured that "the responsibility of mayors is always the same, regardless of whether they have majority, whether they do not have it».

Promising "continuity", a "proximity policy", support for "projects that aim to contribute to the economy" of the municipality, as well as the "research strategy, enhancement of the territory and heritage", with projects that extend "over there of electoral cycles», Adelino Soares also recalled the numerous awards and distinctions that the municipality of Vila do Bispo has achieved, at national level.

And, he added, "we are the municipality with the lowest unemployment rate in the country and the 13th in the national level of transparency."

The reinstated mayor also referred, much applauded, to a prominent figure in the council, the athlete Joana Schenker, who recently became the first Portuguese woman to achieve the title of world champion in bodyboarding. Joana Schenker, stressed the mayor, "has already said that the support of the Vila do Bispo Chamber was fundamental for his achievement."

In conclusion, Adelino Soares underlined that, from this day onwards, he will be the «president of all» the Vilabispensians.

The inauguration ceremony of the municipal bodies of the municipality of Vila do Bispo, which took place this Thursday, the 19th, at the Cultural Centre, and was attended by two neighboring mayors, Joaquina Matos, mayor of Lagos, and Nuno Mascarenhas, mayor of Sines, began with the swearing in of members of the Municipal Assembly.

But instead of the session being chaired, as is normal, by the outgoing president of the Municipal Assembly, in this case Nuno Amado (who had even been elected, in 2013, by the PS, but who in these Municipalities moved to the coalition headed by PSD), ended up having to be directed by Anabela Martins, as the “best positioned citizen of the winning list” of the AM elections, in other words, of the PS list.

Nuno Amado was not present at the ceremony, nor was he even sworn in today (now as a member elected by the PSD/CDS/MPT/PPM), despite his decision (as outgoing AM president) that the session was scheduled for 11:30 am, mid-morning on a working day.

After the swearing in of municipal deputies and the executive of the City Council – consisting of Adelino Soares, Rute Silva, Fernando Santana and Armindo Vicente, all elected by the PS, and also Afonso Nascimento, from the PSD/CDS/MPT/PPM coalition – followed the first session of the Municipal Assembly, for the election of its board. Anabela Martins, from PS, was elected president without any difficulty.
