The contract for the requalification of the EN270, in Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, was awarded by the Chamber of Tavira. The intervention will cost around 627 euros and should be ready nine months after its start.
According to the Municipality of Tavira, 890 meters of road will be rehabilitated. In addition to the EN270 section, the work also includes, «partially, the EN 398 (139 meters), Rua Dr. Filipe Almeida Carrapato (58 meters) which connects the EN 270 and Rua 1º de Maio (120 meters) ».
"The works aim to improve circulation conditions and pedestrian accessibility, reprofile National Roads 270 and 398, organize car parking areas, relocate and improve public transport stopping places, improve rainwater drainage conditions, implement the irrigation network, create earth support walls and enhance electrical and telecommunications infrastructure. The work also includes the planting of trees», described the Câmara de Tavira.
With regard to the re-profiling of lanes, it is planned to install new curbs, «reducing the road platform from 7,5 meters to 7 meters. This change is made by reducing the width of the shoulders, keeping the width of the carriageways».
It is also planned to create a parking area with 16 spaces, as well as changing the location of the bus stops, «with special relevance for the stop towards Tavira – São Brás de Alportel, which will be installed in the vicinity of the Children's Center ».
«By carrying out this work, the municipality intends to benefit and enhance an area where cars and pedestrians pass through, providing better conditions for circulation, mobility, accessibility and safety. The works to be adopted are intended to dignify the space and organize the territory», concluded the Chamber of Tavira.
