A Labor Workshop, where inmates can «learn a profession and, at the same time, contribute to the remodeling of prison areas' spaces», will be built in the Prison Establishment of Silves.
The Association of Municipalities Terras do Infante and the Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services will sign a protocol this Friday, September 22, in Lagos, with a view to installing this structure.
To build this workshop, Terras do Infante will contribute with construction material «with a value of up to 15 thousand euros», according to the City of Lagos. The Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services/Prison Establishment of Silves is responsible for applying the support granted in the implementation of this project.
«The work will be carried out by the inmates of the Prison, within the scope of a training course for masons carried out with the Protocol Center of Justice», according to the municipality of Lacobrigense.
The installation of this workshop aims to «improve the working conditions of the prison establishment and promote the dignity and humanization of the living conditions of inmates, providing them with the acquisition of work skills and teaching a profession that gives them increased tools to overcome the challenges of social reintegration”.
For Terras do Infante, this work «also means the improvement of public facilities that serve the population of this territory and the creation of a new social response».
The protocol signing ceremony, scheduled for today at 16 pm, in the XXI Century City Hall, will be represented by the Board of Directors of Terras do Infante, the associated municipalities (Lagos, Aljezur and Vila do Bispo) and the General Directorate for Reinsertion and Prison Services.
