Portimão's new bus station, located in Caldeira do Moinho, next to the Mercado de Venda por Grosso, opens its doors this Sunday, 10 September, at 18 pm, for an open visit to the population, which will be led by Isilda Gomes, president of the local authority.
In an investment of over 270 thousand euros carried out by the Municipality of Portimão, the space resulted «from the use of two naves in the supply market to create the necessary conditions for the operation of this infrastructure, long desired by the population of Portimão», explains the municipality in a press release.
With the work already at its end, the Chamber foresees that, "in the short term, the new station will concentrate the various services and road transport companies operating in the municipality, so that the parking of buses will be transferred from the current stop on the riverside from Portimão (which will continue to operate as a stopover) for this new infrastructure».
Claiming not to have "technical and functional skills to manage the new station", the municipality announces that it will sign "an agreement with the company Frota Azul, to guarantee the adequate operation of the structure".
In this way, the bus stops on the riverside will, for the time being, remain the point of embarkation and disembarkation.
The new station will be equipped with the complementary services necessary for its full functioning, namely taxi service and information point and ticket sales.
Lines of the Vai e Vem urban circuit are also guaranteed, «in order to guarantee an effective connection of the new station to the city center and other services, such as the train station, health center, hospital, the Praia da Rocha area, between other points of interest'.
According to the Municipality of Portimão, the «new station, which is located near the train station and on the outskirts of the city, will thus create a new circuit of transport mobility in the city».
Its official inauguration will take place "as soon as the operators ensure full operation".
