future road station in portimãoThe Gare Rodoviária de Portimão is finally about to become a reality. Mayor Isilda Gomes revealed that the new structure will occupy two naves in the Mercado per Grosso, located next to the Arena pavilion and in an accessible area and almost on the outskirts of the city.

«We have six ships [in the Mercado por Grosso] and not three are used anymore. It's a waste of space”, but now part will be used to house the first bus station that the city of Portimão will have.

The total investment will be 150 thousand euros, it will be carried out by the end of 2017, with a "all drawing done" of the change that will be necessary.

The mayor advanced, during a breakfast with journalists to take stock of his 1000 days in office, that next to the new Gare Rodoviária there is «free parking: people can take the bus and leave their vehicles in the parking lot next to the Arena, which is free».

On the other hand, this will make it possible to remove from the riverside area and the center and streets of the city, many of the buses that are now “trailing traffic”.

«Some proximity buses will continue to come to the center», explained Isilda Gomes, adding that «this bus station is more dedicated to long-distance trips, for example to Lisbon, or excursions that need to leave the bus».

The mayor announced this investment, which responds to one of the oldest demands of the people of Portimo, as part of the "priorities for the future, which is now!" of your executive.

Is that despite continuing financial difficulties thanks to 140 million euros of debt that will only be resolved when access to the FAM is completed, in 2015 the Portimão council already had positive net results of 8,1 million euros, which allows you now to make some investment.
