Nélson Pereira and Miguel Pinheiro (CD Póvoa) won this Sunday, 3 September, the title of national footvolley champions, in a game played at Praia de Carvoeiro, in Lagoa. 

In the final, the European champion duo defeated Beto Correia and Filipe Santos (CD Póvoa) in two sets, by 19/17 and 19/17.

With this victory in the national championship, Miguel Pinheiro and Nélson Pereira ensure their presence in the 2018 European Championship, in Austria. The duo from Póvoa do Varzim, European champions in title, thus won the fourth consecutive national champion title, out of a total of five already achieved in twelve editions of the national championship.

The final phase of the 12th edition of the National Footvolley Championship had the participation of 12 teams. On Saturday, the 2nd, the group stage was played and on Sunday the semi-finals and final games were played.

Before reaching the final, Nélson Pereira and Miguel Pinheiro faced the duo “Victory Club Lisboa”, composed of Alan Cavalcanti, player of the national beach football team, and Nilson Júnior, former V. Guimarães goalkeeper.

Despite having started at a disadvantage, the duo regained the last two sets and ended up winning 1-2 in a hotly contested game (14/18, 18/16 and 21/19).

The national vice-champions, on the other hand, defeated the pair from CD Póvoa in the semi-finals, composed of the experienced Pedro Salvador and Bonga, winning the first two sets (18/13 and 18/9).
