Pilot Márcio Marreiros, at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, won the Albufeira Municipality Rally, disputed from the 9th to the 10th of September, in a «very close» race and which had «thousands of people watching».

The competition was part of a Super Special that took place on Saturday night, on Avenida dos Descobrimentos, with thousands of people watching. "The public has shown, once again, great interest in watching this Super Special and in seeing the cars in detail at the place of assistance", said Clube Automóvel do Sul, the event's organizer, which had the support of the City Council from Albufeira.

On Sunday, the competition took place in the parishes of Ferreiras and Paderne, sections very disputed by the riders who fought until the end for a place on the podium. In second place was Ricardo Filipe, in a Mitsubishi, leaving the third position to João Martins, also a Mitsubishi Evo driver.

As for the participation of local drivers, there are José Martins (5th place), Bruno Alambre (10th place) and António Correia (14th place).

The “Zero” car, followed by the competitors, also had a driver from Albufeira, Ricardo Teodósio, who took, as navigator, the chairman of the Albufeira Municipal Assembly, Paulo Freitas.

«This year we had a rally with more kilometers of Special Classification Events, distributed by the Albufeira Super Special, PEC Canals and PEC Alcaria, which totaled 50,08 kilometers", explains the race director, José Martins, guaranteeing that «it was a rally without incident, which leaves the organization satisfied, having been to the liking of all competitors».

For Carlos Silva e Sousa, mayor of Albufeira, «this is a bet to continue, not least because the Algarve has a great tradition of motor sports and Albufeira wants to play an important role, either for the quality and status of our drivers, either by the large number of fans of the sport».

The Albufeira Municipality Rally was the third race counting for the Southern Regional Rally Championship, which is part of the FPAK calendar.
