The “Youth Volunteering – Forest Surveillance” program in the municipality of Loulé celebrates 10 years of existence and has already had 576 volunteers, aged between 12 and 17 years old. 

The show's closing party was held last Saturday, September 2nd.

These young people, in their brigades, take pedestrian walks through the parishes in the interior of the municipality, in an activity that has a character of prevention and detection of forest fires.

The awareness and information to the populations are also important in the initiative, which takes place in July and August.

In total, the youth “brigades” have covered 4312 kilometers in the areas of Alte, Ameixial, Benafim, Quarteira, Querença, Salir and Tôr.

To celebrate the 10 of the initiative, a book was published, with photographs of young people from various brigades. the report of Sul Informação “In order to “not spend the summer doing nothing, these young people protect forests from fire”, which accompanied the work of a brigade.

At the closing event of this 10th anniversary, at the Fire Brigade of Loulé, it was possible to visit the facilities of this Fire Department, the Heliport, the District Command of Relief Operations and watch a brief explanation about the role of the GIPS – Intervention Group Permanent of the GNR in fighting forest fires.

Os workshops they ended with a presentation by the Red Cross.

During the afternoon, diplomas were also handed out to this year's volunteers and entities involved with the volunteer program. Volunteers were also able to sign the Volunteer Honor Book.
