Faro received the Jardim Sul do Palácio de Estoi as a "gift" on the Municipality Day

Inaugurations throughout the county and the awarding of medals to various personalities and entities marked the Day of the Municipality of Faro, which was held yesterday, the 7th of September. Among the various official initiatives, a highlight is the delivery of the Jardim Sul do Palácio de Estoi to the Municipality, after being reclassified by Enatur, "which is now open for public use", according to the Chamber of Faro.

The municipality also took advantage of the council's day to inaugurate the Estrada dos Gorjões, after an intervention "which allowed the recovery of the road and shoulders from Santa Bárbara de Nexe to the crossing of Goldra", as well as to unveil the memorial monument to Combatentes da Guerra do Ultramar, in Jardim Guerreiro da Ângela, in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, «in honor of all the soldiers from that parish who lost their lives in the Ultramar War».

The Municipality Day, as is tradition, was also chosen to honor personalities and entities with medals. Diogo Piçarra, musician from Faro, António Branco, rector of the University of Algarve, João Maria Larguito Claro, physician and former clinical director of Hospital de Faro, José Sousa Uva, athletics coach, António Justo, former ARPI director (posthumously) and Joaquim Arenga, from the EDP group, were the medaled personalities.

With regard to entities, medals were awarded to the Gym Club Farense, the Regional Council of the Bar Association, the District Delegation of the Ordem dos Engenheiros and the Regional Delegation of the Ordem dos Médicos.

The commemorations also included the unveiling of the toponymic plaque “Rua Álvaro Paço”, in honor of the agricultural entrepreneur and benefactor of Conceição de Faro, Álvaro dos Santos Calçada Paço; the official opening of the Clínica Lusíadas, at Largo Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro; the inauguration of the training room at the headquarters of the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters in Faro “Cruz Lusa” and the unveiling of the plaque in honor of António Justo, next to the garden of the ARPI- Association of Pensioners, Pensioners and Elderly of the Municipality of Faro.

The celebration of the Day of the Municipality of Faro continues this Friday, with the free entry show “Andanças & Cantorias”, a project by Afonso Dias, scheduled for 22:00 at Palco da Doca.

On the 15th, the presentation of a new edition of the Annals of the Municipality of Faro, at 17:30 pm, at the Municipal Library of Faro.
