The exhibition “Paintings of the Baroque in Seville and the Algarve: Contacts, Coincidences and Divergences”, in homage to Baroque masters such as Zurbarán and Murillo, opens on 23 September at the Municipal Museum of Faro.

«In this unprecedented exhibition, which results from the partnership established between the Municipal Museum of Faro and the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville, will feature works of incalculable value and of an artistic level such as has rarely been seen in our region», considers the Chamber of Faro.

Baroque painting will be the main theme, particularly the influences of the Sevillian school on the work of Portuguese and Algarve masters during the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries.

With this motto, the exhibition presents Castilian and Portuguese painters, eight in all, including the Portuguese Oliveira Bernardes and Marcos da Cruz.

“Of course, the works to be exhibited are worthy of special expectation, by two of the greatest masters of Andalusian baroque: Bartolomé Murillo and Francisco de Zurbarán,” says the municipality of Faro.

“In fact, this is a rare opportunity to get to know these painters as well as the collection of one of the most prestigious Spanish museums, while enjoying some paintings from Algarve churches, which have received significant restoration treatments over the years,” he adds.

The exhibition, inaugurated on the date when the European Heritage Days are commemorated, is curated by Luís de Moura Sobral and Lina Lara and has «important patrons who are once again associated with a project that constitutes a historic landmark in the Museum's programming », concludes.
