The Caloiro Parade went out on the street this Thursday and, before the traditional joy that characterizes it, there were moments of great emotion and even tears. Students at the University of Algarve paid tribute to the young Diogo Costa who was found dead at his home in Gambelas last Sunday.

Between the Penha Campus and the Hospital Rotunda, no chants were sung, no eggs or flour were thrown, there was silence. A photo of Diogo Costa was placed in the roundabout and the various courses, as they passed through the place, deposited flowers, paying their respects to their former colleague.

The Caloiro Parade was, in fact, scheduled for last Tuesday but, due to the young man's death, it was postponed.

After this moment, the parade was what it used to be: originality, rivalry between courses, songs, flour, eggs and also some bad smell to the mixture.

As has been customary in recent years, the parade - "the best ever", according to Rodrigo Teixeira, president of the Academic Association - ended at Largo de São Francisco, where the freshmen were "baptized" and washed by the autotank of Bombeiros Sapadores de Faro.
