The freshmen of the Marine Biology and Biology courses at the University of Algarve participated in a solidarity practice towards the animal cause this Wednesday, September 20th. The new students helped to raise funds for the group Combate à Indifference and Abandono Animal (CIAA) and got to know the work it does.

In all, 74,5 euros were collected and donated, money that will be used to "help settle the cost of the cataract operation to which Blind (a rescued dog who is still looking for a family) will soon be subject to," according to the CIAA.

The initiative also allowed the animal aid group to publicize its work, talk about the importance of sterilization and make known the system of Temporary Care Families (FATs) and the volunteer system.

“The CIAA has several animals in its charge, many of them chronically ill and senior animals that will hardly find a family, apart from those who take them in temporarily. Despite the difficulties experienced by the CIAA, the volunteers remain tireless in the fight against indifference and animal abandonment. This meeting also brought with it the opportunity to raise new volunteers for the animal cause», considered the group.

This is the fourth consecutive year that older students of this UAlg course promote this practice to their new colleagues. This means that Marine Biology and Biology students who are now in the 3rd year were two years ago at the CIAA, to participate in a similar initiative, but as freshmen.
