It will have at least 3 stars and will be the first hotel in the village of Castro Marim. The Castro-Marinean Chamber launched a tender for the transfer of land, with a view to building a hotel with «at least 40 rooms», equipment that the mayor of the municipality Francisco Amaral hopes may be in operation «within a year".

«We don't have any hotel in the town, it's a gap that exists in the county seat. As the private initiative does not advance, it makes perfect sense for the Chamber to provide a land for this purpose», revealed Francisco Amaral to Sul Informação, adding that it will do "everything possible" so that the unit is operational in the summer of 2018.

The land in question is located «right next to the playground», in the Castro Marim garden, and has 1776 square meters. The bidding base for the competition is 170 thousand euros, with the construction of the hotel unit being the responsibility of the winner of the competition.

The launch notice for this contest, which can be downloaded by following this link, was published on the 9th of August and foresees a deadline of 15 days for the submission of proposals.

The mayor of Castro Marim is confident that there will be no shortage of candidates. “We are very convinced that there will be interested parties. There are several hotels in VRSA, Monte Gordo and Height and I believe that any of them can compete. We think that there will be several competitors», he said.

Francisco Amaral's conviction is linked to the potential that the mayor sees in the village of Castro Marim. «We have a huge historical and cultural heritage and we have the Nature Reserve right next door. We have several projects for the construction of bicycle paths to connect the village to VRSA, the Natural Reserve, Praia Verde, Altura and also Monte Francisco, where it will stay the Largo Paco de Lucía, where we will honor the greatest guitarist in the world. It makes perfect sense to create a hotel unit here», he defended.

The mayor of Castro Marim also said that the municipality intends to build a unit with 40 or more rooms, but that the decision as to the capacity of the future hotel will be "upon the promoter".

This was not the first time that Francisco Amaral encouraged the appearance of a hotel unit, in his already long municipal journey. “In Alcoutim, the private sector was not advancing either and I launched a tender for an inn by the river. It made perfect sense and ended up being a pole of attraction for the village», said the former president of the Alcouteneja Chamber.

«Above all, this vicious cycle had to be broken: over the years, no one was interested in building a hotel in Castro Marim. As no one was moving forward, the Chamber decided to go ahead and launch this competition», he summed up.
