After yesterday, the semifinalist Bordeira (Aljezur) failed to be chosen for the final lot of 14 locations that will compete for the title of 7 Wonders of Portugal – Aldeias, Paderne (Albufeira) will be, on 3 September, the only village in Algarve to to compete, in Piódão, for the coveted award.

This Sunday, Lindoso and Rio de Onor were elected the two “Villages in Protected Areas”. Pedrógão Grande hosted the last round of the 7 Wonders of Portugal – Villages competition.

Initially planned for the Azores, on Terceira Island, the Gala das Aldeias located in Protected Areas was transferred to Pedrógão Grande, with the objective of “Reborn and Protect” the region affected by the June fires.

During the day, the program was broadcast from Praia das Rocas, in Castanheira de Pera, with content about the three municipalities of Pedrógão, Castanheira and Figueiró dos Vinhos, promoting the tourist potential of the region.

The 49 finalist villages of the 7 Wonders are organized into 7 categories and the 7 winners were selected by the highest number of votes in each of the 7 categories: "Rural Villages", "Authentic Villages", "Monument Villages", "Riverside Villages", “Villages in Protected Areas”, “Remote Villages” and “Villages by the Sea”.

14 villages will compete for the title in each of the 7 categories of this 7 Wonders of Portugal – Villages.

The finalists are: “Remote Villages“: Piódão and Castro Laboreiro. “Aldeias de Mar“: Azenhas do Mar and Fajã dos Cubres. "Rural Villages": Paderne and System. “Riverside villages“: Dornes and Santa Clara-a-Velha. “Authentic Villages“: Podence and Castelo Rodrigo. “Monument Villages“: Monsanto and Monsaraz. “Villages in Protected Areas“: Lindoso and Rio de Onor.

The 7 winners of 7 Wonders of Portugal – Villages are selected by the highest number of votes in each category. In other words, one Wonder per category will be chosen at the very final gala on September 3rd.

The program, which, as always, will be conducted by Catarina Furtado and José Carlos Malato, will be broadcast live on RTP1.
